Logical Beginnings
The original Ravenclaw Tests of Logic took place back in 2001, where from September to December, Godric's Ghost challenged all HOL members to solve a series of logic puzzles. While it's easy to see how a test of wits appeals to Ravenclaws, as Godric's Ghost put it, "an understanding of logic can aid a wizard regardless of house - logic can help the brave, the hard-working, and the ambitious every bit as much as the learned."
As it turned out, members of all houses were up to the challenge! Godric's Ghost kept a record of everyone who solved the puzzles correctly, as well as a Hall of Fame that showed which HOLers were able to solve each puzzle fastest - and unsurprisingly, all four houses were well represented.
The original site is still functional. You can find all of the original puzzles, solutions, the Hall of Fame, and an analysis of Professor Snape's logic puzzle from Philosopher's Stone on the site.
Flash forward to 2013, and HOL was once again challenged! The original Tests of Logic were reborn as Rowena Ravenclaw's Tests of Logic. From September to November, activity organizers Scarlet Leslie, Amy Lupin, and Matilde Rayne provided a new puzzle to solve each week.
The first three to solve each puzzle received beans, and the top three solvers (by total time) for the entire activity received the Logical Leader HOL Award.
As with the original Tests of Logic, the second site is also still functional, and includes the puzzles, solutions, the results of that activity, and some guides that may be helpful to anyone new to solving logic puzzles - if this is you, you might benefit from checking those out!
It'll be interesting to see how this iteration of the Tests of Logic turns out! Will Slytherin's Will Lestrange be able to continue his logic puzzle domination from 2013, or will there be a completely new set of "Logical Leaders" in 2015? Let's find out!
